This piece is for my good friend "KAGAN McLEOD's" samurai show- in Toronto- June 19th. More info to come.

Kagan will have real samurai armor there. All of the artists participating will be doing similar works dealing with the same subject matter.

My drawing is on a 23x30 sheet of arches paper.

I DON'T LIKE THE WORD RIP

People pass away every day. But it hurts when it's someone who you care about.

Today I felt that familiar pain deep in my gut- as I did my daily pass on the internet.

I was shocked to hear that I would no longer see the face or hear the unmistakable voice of my friend "Rory Root."

I got to know Rory through the sales of my work at conventions, he was ever so kind with the support and knowledge he shared dealing with the comic book industry.

I remember that when ever I would see him walking with his cane (employee trailing with note book in hand) during the last hours of a show. I would chuckle, because I knew what I was in for. Rory loved to get a good deal. Haggling with me until he got a price for my product that rang true to his ear. But I liked that about him, because I like to haggle too.

He was nice enough to have me do a signing at his store "Comic Relief". I remember the smell of the bree cheese, and the sight of darkened teeth from the complimentary wine he had out. He cared for his customers and it showed in ways that might be overlooked.

I knew he cared for me and my books. It saddens me that I won't get to hear what he thinks of my latest work. Maybe that's a selfish thought, but I cared about his opinion- the guy had a good eye. Look at his shop. It's one of the best I've been in.

Rory's memory will have to live on in my mind and heart, and in the hearts and minds of others. That's just the way it works.

I will be teaching a comics class - Beginning May 7th. It will be four sessions long- on four different days. Two Wednesdays and Two Saturdays.

You will be taught a detailed course on how to get started {or enhance} making any length story.

We will make stories side by side- discuss- then create a more elaborate project.
